Hiking

If you would like to go hiking, you are right at Planina pod Golica. Golica is a very friendly mountain, where hiking destinations are complemented by farms at the foot and a mountain hut below the peak. As is customary in Karavanke, Golica is also a border mountain with Austria. It is bounded by two saddles on the east and west, Suha saddle on one side and Jekljevo saddle on the other. The grassy steeps, as the name suggests, do not impede access to the top, which is a pleasant exercise after Sunday lunch.

Nature

Daffodils

The biggest natural attraction of the village pod Golica are the daffodils , which turn the meadows white in May and attract many visitors. A paradise for hikers and walkers. I discovered a lot of interesting things on my wandering around the village. From the interesting village architecture, chapels, monuments, ethnological objects exhibited in the open air, animals, I even found the Alps in miniature here.

The narcissus symbolizes falling in love with one's own image, and if this trait repels us in humans, we are irresistibly attracted to Golica. The fame of its beauty, which was carried around the world by the Avseniki with their famous polka Na Golici, is justified. Of course, daffodils or locks are not the only attraction of this trip to Golica. The ascent to the peak summit is also noteworthy, where we walk high between Gorenjska and Carinthia and gaze at the rocky Julian Mountains in the south and the snow-covered Visoki tur in the far north of Austria.

Planina pod Golica

Planina pod Golica is a hilly village stretching along the Jesenice stream. Above the village, on the way to the hut under Golica, flows the lively Črni potok. The village lies at about 950 meters above sea level. Until 1945, it was called Sveti Križ. Most of the inhabitants at that time were miners who mined iron ore in the Sava Caves for almost six centuries, until the beginning of the 20th century. It is only five kilometers from Jesenice .

In the middle of the village stands the baroque Church of St. Cross . It was built in 1683, when the Bucelleni brothers fulfilled their promise to the miners. If they find new deposits of iron ore, they will build a church. And so it happened. The church is still standing today and is in use.
